JACKET WITH LEATHER INSERTS
PROJECT
Apparel
The “Jacket with Leather Inserts” was created to reinterpret the language of denim through material experimentation and precise tailoring techniques, balancing artisanal tradition with contemporary innovation.
The garment is made from an exclusive fabric developed by BESTE Textile Division, produced on mechanical shuttle looms with selvage edges that highlight the authentic, constructive nature of traditional denim. The fabric features a classic 3/1 twill construction, combining ITACO cotton yarn with a thread made from recycled leather derived from industrial leather goods waste.
The recycled leather, carefully selected for color and quality, is shredded, powdered, and re-applied onto a fine nylon core, creating a durable, innovative fiber that embodies both sustainability and technological research. The ITACO cotton, cultivated in Puglia and processed internally by BESTE through a fully verticalized supply chain, ensures complete traceability, quality, and control.
The calf leather strips, produced by GAB, are 0.9 cm wide, laminated leather-on-leather, and topstitched at the center with tone-on-tone thread, achieving a technical effect consistent with the denim aesthetic. Leather components such as the collar are produced by ALEX&Co., while the fabric panels are sent to PUNTOART for laser-cut slots designed to accommodate the leather insertions.
These slots are laser-cut on fabrics pre-treated with a heat-bonded polyurethane film, which provides anti-fray properties and ensures clean edges after cutting.
Finally, the garment is sent to RILIEVI, where the leather insertions along the sides and armholes are executed manually, completing a piece of exceptional artisanal precision.
The result is a technical and sophisticated jacket that merges sportswear functionality with material research, transforming denim tradition into a contemporary and sustainable manufacturing project.
