TROUSERS WITH LEATHER INSERTS
PROJECT
Apparel
The “Trousers with Leather Inserts” reinterpret the language of denim through material research and tailoring experimentation, blending technical design with precise craftsmanship.
The garment is made from an exclusive fabric developed by BESTE Textile Division, produced on mechanical shuttle looms with selvage edges that enhance the compact structure and constructive quality of traditional denim. The 3/1 twill construction combines ITACO cotton yarn with a recycled leather thread derived from industrial leather goods waste.
The recycled leather, selected for color and purity, is shredded, powdered, and applied to a fine nylon core, creating an innovative, durable, and sustainable fiber. The ITACO cotton cultivated in Puglia, spun, and woven internally by BESTE through a fully verticalized supply chain— ensures complete control, traceability, and constant quality.
The pattern is developed by PROJECT and the cut pieces are sent to PUNTOART for laser-cutting of slots along the trouser sides. These passage holes, obtained via laser cutting on fabric treated with an anti-fray polyurethane film, ensure precision and clean finishes.
Leather insertions are then executed by hand at RILIEVI using 0.9 cm calf leather strips supplied and center-topstitched by GAB with tone-on-tone thread, achieving a technical, graphic effect consistent with the denim aesthetic.
The trousers are completed with a fabric belt featuring a leather end-piece crafted by ALEX&Co., providing visual continuity and coherence to the project.
The result is a technical and tailored trouser where leather serves as both a decorative and structural element, transforming a workwear tradition into a contemporary synthesis of design, craftsmanship, and material innovation.
